Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 8, 2026

Date Limite is a personal project published by Loïc Sence, an individual based in France. Date Limite operates the website https://www.datelimite.app and the Date Limite mobile application for iOS (hereinafter collectively referred to as the "Service").

The Service allows users to track their consumable products and receive alerts before expiration dates.

This Privacy Policy informs you of how we collect, use and protect your data when you use our Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Key principles

  • No named account creation: your account is identified by an anonymous key generated by the server.
  • No email address is collected or required.
  • No advertising is displayed in the application or on the website.
  • No sale or commercial sharing of your data with third parties.

Definitions

  • Service

The website https://www.datelimite.app and the Date Limite mobile application for iOS.

  • Personal Data

Any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.

  • Usage Data

Data collected automatically when using the Service (e.g., IP address, browser type, pages visited).

  • Cookies

Small files stored on your device by your browser.

Data collected

Account data

When you use the Service, the following data is created and stored on our servers:

  • Synchronization key (sync_key): a unique anonymous identifier automatically generated by the server. This key cannot be modified and contains no personally identifiable information.
  • Security code (sync_code): a PIN code chosen by you to protect access to your account.
  • Display name (sync_name): a freely chosen pseudonym you may set at your convenience.
  • Sign-in IP addresses: the current and last sign-in IP addresses are recorded for security purposes.

Device data

For each device linked to your account, we store a push notification token (Apple APNs token) to send you expiration alerts.

Product data

The products you add to your lists (name, expiration date, quantity and other information you enter) are stored on our servers to enable synchronization across your devices and to send alerts.

Images

You may associate an image with a product. This image may come from your camera, photo gallery, the Internet, or a partner source such as Open Food Facts. Images are stored in France on OVH Cloud.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain technical data when you use the Service: IP address, browser type, browser version, pages visited, date and time of visit, time spent on pages, mobile device type, operating system and device identifiers.

AI-powered recipe generation

The Service offers a recipe generation feature powered by generative artificial intelligence. This feature aims to reduce food waste by suggesting recipes based on your products nearing their expiration date. If you have no products registered, seasonal recipes adapted to the current month are suggested.

To provide this feature, the names of your relevant products are transmitted server-to-server to the OpenAI API. No other personal data (account key, code, display name, IP address) is transmitted to OpenAI. The requests (prompts) sent are retained on the OpenAI dashboard to monitor service quality and consistency.

Server logs

Our server logs only record API endpoint URLs with query parameters. No HTTP headers or SQL queries are logged.

Cookies

We only use technical cookies necessary for the operation of the Service:

  • Session cookies: essential for the website to function.
  • Technical maintenance cookies: used for monitoring and maintaining the Service.

We do not use any advertising, behavioral tracking or profiling cookies. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some website features may then be unavailable.

Use of data

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • Provide, maintain and improve the Service
  • Send expiration alerts via push notifications
  • Synchronize your data across your devices
  • Ensure security and protection against misuse
  • Detect and resolve technical issues
  • Analyze Service usage for improvement purposes

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: processing is necessary to provide the Service you use (product synchronization, sending alerts).
  • Legitimate interest: Service security, detection of technical anomalies and improvement of the Service.
  • Legal obligation: compliance with our legal obligations where applicable.

Third-party service providers

We use the following providers in connection with the operation of the Service:

  • OVH (France): web server hosting and image storage (OVH Cloud). Data is stored in France.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs): sending expiration alert push notifications to your iOS devices.
  • New Relic: performance and availability monitoring of the Service. Data is retained for a maximum of 7 days.
  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google): collection of mobile application crash reports for diagnosis and bug fixing.
  • OpenAI (United States): AI-powered recipe generation. Only the names of products nearing expiration are transmitted via server-to-server communication. Requests are retained on the OpenAI dashboard for quality monitoring.

These providers only have access to data strictly necessary to perform their services and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Data transfers

Your data is hosted in France by OVH. Certain third-party providers (OpenAI, New Relic, Firebase Crashlytics, Apple) may process data outside the European Union. In such cases, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place (standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions or certification mechanisms).

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. No automatic deletion is applied. You may request the deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us (see the "Contact us" section).

Data security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. However, no method of Internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
